Stormwatching in Solund

Solund is a remote island community made up of around 1,700 islands and skerries, located about two hours north of Bergen. It is the westernmost municipality in Norway, where the vast North Sea meets the dramatic Norwegian coastline.

Along the shores of Solund, the sky and sea are in constant motion, shifting colors and moods by the minute. The ever-changing light makes every moment unique. Whether your idea of storm watching is curling up with a warm drink as you enjoy nature’s spectacle from your window, or feeling the wind and waves up close from a rugged headland, you’re guaranteed an unforgettable experience.

The Norwegian Coastal Culture Academy (NKKA) offers guided hikes through authentic cultural landscapes — and you can also book our guides for kayak adventures through Sognefjord Active.

We collaborate closely with Solund Leilighetshotell, SolundMat (local food producers), and local taxi boat operators to make your stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. At the hotel restaurant, you can enjoy fresh fish from the Atlantic Ocean and lamb from the traditional heatherlands, both specialties of the region.

There are also numerous hiking trails across Solund, suitable for all levels and weather conditions — perfect for exploring the island’s raw beauty year-round.
